Tigers dominate top-tier of ACC player rankings |
Clemson is currently listed with 4/9 odds to win the ACC Championship by Vegas Insider, with Miami (7-1) and Florida State (9-1) the only teams relatively close.
A look at the ACC's best talent provides one indicator in why Dabo Swinney's Tigers are such a heavy favorite. Southern Pigskin projected the top-100 players in the ACC recently with three Clemson D-line starters making up the top-4 spots in the conference: Christian Wilkins (1), Dexter Lawrence (2) and Clelin Ferrell (4). Eight Tigers crack the top-25, with Mitch Hyatt (12), Travis Etienne (15), Austin Bryant (20), Kelly Bryant (22) and Trayvon Mullen (23) making that top-tier. The most top-25 players another ACC program has is three (Miami, Boston College and NC State). All totaled Clemson has 14 in the top-100, with Kendall Joseph (27), Hunter Renfrow (39), Tee Higgins (45), Justin Falcinelli (59), Tavien Feaster (62) and Trevor Lawrence (97) all in the mix. Miami is right behind them overall (13), with eight in the top-50 compared to Clemson's 11. Clemson is returning five of its six 2017 first-team All-ACC honorees in Hyatt, Falcinelli, Ferrell, Wilkins and Lawrence and nine Tigers who made one of the three All-ACC teams (Bryant, Renfrow, Joseph, Etienne).
