Swinney says LB has positive attitude after suffering second ACL tear

Talented freshman linebacker Bryton Constantin suffered his second ACL injury recently.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told the media Tuesday that Constantin will have surgery on his left knee again this week.

"He just tore his ACL again doing his rehab work, he said. It just tore. You hate it for him, but we will fix it. I think going to fix-it on Friday. Our doctors are going to do it. He had it done back in Louisiana the first time (February). We will do it here. The good news is he has a guy like Amari Rodgers to look at that just got player of the game for us. It’s a lot of encouragement."

Constantin was a four-star-rated linebacker out of University Lab (La.), ranked as a top-100 player overall by Rivals (94).

Swinney shared that walk-on linebacker Matthew Maloney also tore his ACL.

"We lost Matthew Maloney too," he said. "I know you all probably don’t know who he is. He is a freshman walk-on guy for us we really think is going to be a good player for us. We think he is going to help us at some point. He tore his ACL this week so we had two of those. We will get both guys in the rehab process. Bryton has a good attitude. Better that it happens now than in December or January or something like that. Just trying to stay positive with him and keep him encouraged. He’s got his whole career in front of him. There is no reason why he can’t come back and be better than ever."
