Playing time breakdown: Tigers get back to bigger rotation versus 'Noles

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson got back to its regular healthy of rotation versus Florida State.

The Tigers mixed in an equal amount of scholarship products on offense and defense (29), with ten seeing action on both the offensive and defensive lines. The postgame boxscore logged 83 total players seeing the field on offense, defense or special teams.

Isaiah Simmons continues to lead the way in snaps and impact defensively, playing 35-plus snaps for a 17th-straight game (39) and posting six stops (2 for loss) with a sack.

In the 300-plus rushing effort, five running backs received a carry - Darien Rencher averaging nine yards per in his three attempts over nine snaps among that group.

Among the freshmen, running back Michel Dukes and offensive lineman Will Putnam reached the four-game limit for a redshirt possibility. QB Taisun Phommachanh, LB Keith Maguire, TE Jaelyn Lay and DL Ruke Orhorhoro are all on the cusp of that with three, with Phommachanh the only one playing of that group on Saturday.

"We kept a couple guys out the other night that we could have played," Dabo Swinney said on his call-in show Monday night. "We were like, 'Nah, let's just hang on.' Maybe they had one game left or something like that. We've got a couple guys who have played two games or played three games and that we know we want to hold but let's just save a game in case we need them. There will come a point where you bite the bullet and say, 'We're good.' No matter what happens -- we wouldn't burn his redshirt for two games. Balancing that. And then there's some guys we use the four because we know we're going to redshirt them so it doesn't matter. We've had those bubble guys that we just keep getting them ready and try to hold them and use their games wisely and save some here and there. We'll make a decision later."
