Louisville has fired Bobby Petrino |
The Cardinal Nation has had enough.
Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino has been fired with two games left in the season. Athletic Director Vince Tyra said the following in a school release. "We want to thank Bobby for guiding our football program to some of the better seasons we have had historically at UofL during his two separate tenures here. However, at this time we feel the program needs different leadership and we owe it to our student-athletes and fans to get this turned around. I did not have the confidence that it was going to happen next season without a change and it needs to start happening now. We expect to determine a new head coach soon to restore our football program to national prominence." Don't worry about Petrino, he has a massive buyout in the range of $14 million. The Cardinals were embarrassing this season with a 2-8 record and winless in the ACC in seven tries. What made matters worse was their defense let five different teams score 50 points or more this season. They gave up an easy 77 points against Clemson which could have close to 100 if the Tigers had elected to keep their starters in the game. Syracuse hung 54 points on them last night and had 37 points at halftime. Offensively, the Cards' offense was not much better as they were averaging only 21.7 points per game, lowest in the ACC. In the previous two seasons, they led the league in that offensive category. The fanbase will hope for former Louisville quarterback Jeff Brohm to return home as he is currently the popular coach at Purdue. What a monster first year on the job for Louisville’s new AD. Louisville owes Bobby Petrino at least $12.8 million. Expect Petrino to argue for $14.3 million due to contract language.
