Four Tigers picked in Top 21 of 2019 NFL Mock Draft |
The 2018 NFL Draft just ended over the weekend, so national media pundits are feverishly pumping out their new 2019 NFL mock drafts for next season.
Sporting News released their first 2019 mock draft of many and it had all four of Clemson's starting defensive linemen picked in the first 21 picks. Dexter Lawrence was projected to the New York Giants at the No. 10 selection. "Lawrence likely will be the first player drafted from a loaded defensive line at Clemson," Sportingnews.com said. "The dominant interior defender sets up the entire defense thanks to constant penetration and the commanding of double teams."
Clelin Ferrell was right behind him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 11 pick.
"The Bucs have two veterans at defensive end, and they’ll need to find a young rusher to complement Noah Spence for the long term," the website said. "Ferrell would have been a first-rounder in 2018."
Christian Wilkins was predicted to go to the Denver Broncos at No. 20 overall.
Denver added to its defensive line with Bradley Chubb this year, but more interior players could be needed," the website said. "Wilkins benefits from the disruption caused by his Clemson teammates."
The final Clemson projection of the first round had Austin Bryant going to the Oakland Raiders at No. 21 overall.
The Raiders started to retool their defense in the 2018 draft, an effort that likely will continue in 2019," the website said. "Bryant could be a dynamic pairing with Khalil Mack."
Clemson had nine players taken in the 2016 draft, and a school-record 10 were taken in the 1983 draft, which went 12 rounds.
