Former Clemson guard makes NBA Summer League roster

Former Clemson guard Gabe DeVoe earned a spot on the Charlotte Hornets' Summer League team after an invite to mini-camp last month.

The Hornets have three games scheduled in Las Vegas starting Friday at 5:30 Eastern versus Oklahoma City (ESPNU), then July 8 at 5 p.m. versus Miami (NBA TV) and July 9 versus Boston at 7 p.m. (ESPN2). There will be a tournament to follow from July 11-17 seeded based on team performance in those initial games.

DeVoe will compete on a rookie-heavy roster along with second-year pro and FSU product Dwayne Bacon, as well as 2018 second-round draft pick and forward Arnoldas Kulboka.

“He looks very comfortable out there,” Hornets coach James Borrego told the Charlotte Observer on DeVoe. “Looks like he’s played four years, like he’s run a team.”

“I just went out and played with confidence,” DeVoe told reporters. “Felt like I didn’t really turn the ball over, made shots when I had them and was making the simple play.”

DeVoe averaged 14.2 points last season, doubling his previous career-high.

He was named to the Midwest All-Tournament team after scoring 20-plus points in all his NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Clemson-NCAAs-record 31 points versus Kansas.

In his final 15 college games, he scored 20 or more points eight times.
