Former Clemson DE to play final year at BC

Former four-star DE prospect Richard Yeargin announced formally this week that he will transfer to Boston College.

Yeagin suffered a major neck injury in a car wreck that had him redshirt during the 2017 season and then move into a student coaching role this past year. After a successful neck surgery in October, Yeargin's desire to play his final year of eligibility returned.

He graduated with a Master's in Athletic Development and Organazational Leadership recently. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney supported Yeargin's decision to move on.

“Based on my conversations with Coach Swinney, he was very supportive in making sure I did what was best for me and making sure I did what was not going to hurt my health long term,” Yeargin told TigerNet. “After speaking with him, he felt like it would behoove me to give it a shot elsewhere and just go for it. As of now, I haven't played football in a few years. Clemson has been great to me in keeping me on scholarship and staying for my Masters and giving me multiple outlets and resources to take advantage of. Now, Coach Swinney has given me his blessing to play again and to play elsewhere and to give me some recommendations. I definitely appreciate it as I've taken the time with my family to figure out what's best for me.”

Yeargin said his high school coach recently called him with Boston College reaching out to see his interest in joining the Eagles.

"They were the one school that I felt like from an academic standpoint and athletic standpoint - culture standpoint...was a good fit for me to try again," Yeargin told 105.5 The Roar in Clemson this week, adding that he will go for another Master's in Health and Administration in Chestnut Hill.

Yeargin totaled 29 tackles, five for loss, with five QB pressures and a pass breakup in 336 snaps over 22 games at Clemson. He was an All-State selection and U.S. Army All-American as a senior at University School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Yeargin could return to Death Valley this fall and play in the Oct. 26 Clemson-BC game.
