Five Tigers make Athlon preseason All-America

by - Staff Writer -

Five Clemson players landed on Athlon’s preseason All-American teams.

Clemson offensive tackle Mitch Hyatt, defensive lineman Christian Wilkins and defensive end Clelin Ferrell were projected as first-team honorees.

Junior defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence made third-team and senior defensive end Austin Bryant made fourth-team All-America.

Only one scheduled Clemson ACC opponent has a player on either of the first and second teams in Boston College, with running back AJ Dillon and safety Lukas Denis, as two of four Eagles on any of four teams (fourth-team punt returner Michael Walker and defensive lineman Zach Allen also representing BC). Miami safety Jaquan Johnson joins Clemson’s trio as an ACC first-team representative.

Wisconsin led all teams nationally with seven selections across the four teams, followed by Ohio State (6). Regular-season finale foe South Carolina's Deebo Samuel was named second-team as a receiver and a kick returner.

Hyatt, Ferrell, Wilkins and Lawrence all earned All-American honors and first-team All-ACC last season.

Athlon also projects a Clemson return to the College Football Playoff with one loss, with Trevor Lawrence earning three of their four ACC ‘Top Freshman’ votes.
