ESPN analyst: "Clemson's schedule is so soft" |
Clemson Football was an undefeated 15-0 last season claiming another National Championship leaving Alabama and Notre Dame in their wake during the historic playoff run.
However, some media personalities always want to bring up their ACC schedule to try to downplay Clemson's future accomplishments. Add ESPN analyst Seth Walder to the list as he thinks Clemson's 2019 schedule is pretty much a farce. "Clemson's schedule is so soft," he said on the Paul Finebaum Show Wednesday. "We are talking about one of the easiest schedules in the Power 5. They are two-touchdown favorites over everyone on their schedule, and the toughest game is at South Carolina." I agree that Clemson's non-conference games against Charlotte and Wofford are of the tasty cupcake variety. Elite teams like Clemson don't underestimate anyone and just take it one game at a time. Texas A&M will probably be the toughest matchup of the upcoming season as the Aggies have a talented and hungry group that will want revenge in Death Valley. Clemson's strength of schedule would be much higher if South Carolina would raise their game. If the Gamecocks were on the level of a top 25 type team year in and year out, it would make it a more difficult task for the Tigers. ESPN's early FPI has Clemson as the No. 1 team in the land with an impressive 83% chance to make the College Football Playoff, 58% chance to make it back to the title game, and 36% chance to win it all again.
