Clemson, media thank Tim Bourret on final day in SID office |
Friday was longtime Clemson sports information director Tim Bourret's last day as a full-time employee with the school, retiring after 40 years.
In an email to local and national media this week, Bourret tallied that he's worked 1,249 men's basketball games, 494 men's golf tournaments and 493 football games (including 330 in a row) in his time with Clemson. Bourret will stick around for his regular role on the men's basketball broadcast, as well as some more work around Clemson athletics with regular writing contributions. He also holds a part-time role now for NBC's golf coverage. Friday, Bourret thanked former Clemson president Jim Barker for a painting of the view of Memorial Stadium from the Clemson practice fields. On my last day in the Clemson AD I want to thank former President Jim Barker for the painting he made of a Death Valley view from the practice fields where I spent a lot of hours the last 40 years. Dr. Edwards and Fr. Hesburgh are smiling down. pic.twitter.com/yaQEdMPIx7 After Bourret's farewell, a number of national and local media, as well as current and former Clemson employees, took to Twitter to thank Bourret for his time in Clemson: Man @JakeTrout has quite a guy with him and you will never NOT be a Clemson go to guy for me! We’re gonna miss ya Tim, but we will always bother you! Thank you Mr. Brando. One of our all time favorites. RT @TimBrando: @TimBourret Man @JakeTrout has quite a guy with him and you will never NOT be a Clemson go to guy for me! We’re gonna miss ya Tim, but we will always bother you! Congrats Tim...I miss you already... Mr. Overtime. Will miss meeting with you. Always always prepared. RT @espnSteveLevy: @TimBourret Congrats Tim...I miss you already... My life has been made better by Tim Bourret. His last day as a Clemson employee was today. 40 years of nothing but excellence! He made his parents and Bob Bradley proud. Well done ?@TimBourret? ! pic.twitter.com/vrLKPgJAPI Can’t thank @TimBourret enough for everything he did for me personally in my transition to Clemson over the past year. Excited he’ll still be around hoops for selfish reasons! One of the best resources I have!!#ClemsonGoogle pic.twitter.com/npKZzgZcIy The best of the best. Congrats on an awesome job! Hats off to you, Tim. You were a huge help to us in the media every step of the way.. like even a day or two ago! Well done, @TimBourret. You've been a credit to Clemson in every way. https://t.co/DNcy9IiPCz Best of luck, Tim, and congratulations on an incredible career at Clemson! Words cannot express the gratitude I feel to my mentor & boss for 20+ years. But it's not goodbye because he'll continue to be a valuable resource as a writer & storyteller for us for years to come. #ClemsonFamily pic.twitter.com/byjd0JIc1b Thank you Tim for all your help over the years. I’ll miss seeing you at Clemson games. Can’t begin to express how amazing a job @TimBourret did for 40(!) years with the limitations of Twitter. Someday, Google will be able to answer all the questions about @ClemsonTigers that Tim can in an instant. https://t.co/WQwUoi1Sjb Congrats @TimBourret. I really appreciate your friendship. https://t.co/hyHqcuThKL I was just thinking, @TimBourret has influenced more people than he could ever know. He was my first college football TV partner. His calm professionalism kept me from freaking out when my notes blew away pregame. Happy retirement Tim. You’ve earned it. I've sometimes wondered how many hours I spent sitting on the tombstones waiting for Tommy. I can't imagine what your hours add up to. Congrats on a great run. You made Mr. B proud. Took a chance on a kid who dreamed of working in sports, helped me discover a career, unequaled friendships and lasting memories. Thank you @TimBourret on your last official day in Jervey — not a bad run at all. pic.twitter.com/yJ0wF1e1nR The first time I asked for a job, @TimBourret told me he didn’t hire high school seniors. He didn’t hire many college freshmen, either, but he took a chance on me. If you enjoy the work I do today, you should thank him. He helped me find my calling. In 2012 he gave me a job & in 2014 he quietly pushed me to find my passion. Thank you will never be sufficient. Enjoy retirement, @TimBourret! It is so much more than deserved. #ClemsonSIDFamily Sad to see you go thank you for everything for all your memories all the talks we had hate to see you go Congrats to @TimBourret on a heck of a career. They call him "Clemson Google" and I can tell you from experience: one of the smartest and nicest human beings I've ever met. You were a great analyst, mentor and friend to me. Enjoy retirement. I have a feeling our paths may cross! https://t.co/Wy32DL8d6D
