Clemson catcher signs with Pirates, will forgo senior season

Clemson junior catcher Kyle Wilkie announced that he will forgo his senior season and sign with Pittsburgh after being selected in the 12th round of the MLB draft (pick No. 364 overall).

"Officially a Pittsburgh Pirate! Can’t thank my family, friends, and coaches enough for helping me get to this point," Wilkie said on Instagram. "Also, a huge thank you to @clemsonbaseball and @clemsonuniversity for the opportunities and support they have given me during my three years at school. Now it’s time for the next chapter, Go Pirates! "

Wilkie hit .307 with six home runs and 41 RBIs last season. Over three years, he has totaled 86 RBIs and 37 extra-base hits with 134 starts in 144 games with a career .307 batting average.

He earned third-team All-ACC honors as a sophomore.
