Clemson-Georgia Southern game update

by -

The Clemson and Georgia Southern game will proceed with a noon kickoff on Saturday (televised on ESPNU).

School officials set a noon deadline Friday for a final decision to weigh the latest forecasts from the effects of Hurricane Florence and give Georgia Southern the proper amount of time to travel up from Statesboro, Georgia.

Forecasts call for sustained winds of 15 MPH and up increasing over the afternoon and chances of rain as early as around mid-afternoon. The bulk of the rain and heavier wind is expected more toward Sunday.

Clemson and Georgia Southern will meet for the first time Saturday - both seeking a 3-0 start to their 2018 campaigns. The Tigers are a 33-point favorite.

Gameday tips from Clemson

* Parking lots open at 6 a.m. and Memorial Stadium gates open at 10 a.m.

* Please allow extra time for travel to the game. While that extra travel time is important for most games, it is especially important for this Saturday’s game. In response to the needs throughout the state, South Carolina Highway Patrol has deployed additional personnel to affected regions and therefore fans traveling to Clemson are asked to be patient and plan for possible extended time getting into and out of town on gameday.

* Please depart from all parking lots no later than two (2) hours after the game ends and clean your tailgate area as much as possible prior to your departure. This will help assist cleaning crews with efficient postgame clean-up operations.

* As with all early-season games, remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Please understand that many concession stands are staffed by volunteer groups and therefore not all stands will be fully operational on Saturday.

* Make appropriate adjustments to tailgate set-ups based on weather conditions (avoid flags, unsecured tents and other items that could blow away and cause damage).

* Clemson Athletics and IPTAY are working with the Red Cross to support relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Florence. Those wishing to contribute can visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS or text “FLORENCE” to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

* Remember that metal detectors will be at select gates so provide yourself extra time to enter through the gates and follow the guidelines about what you can bring into Memorial Stadium.

Relief efforts

To aid in relief efforts for those in South Carolina affected by Hurricane Florence, fans can donate unopened bottled water on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. across from the IPTAY office and Gate 9 near Littlejohn Coliseum. Clemson Athletics and IPTAY will also donate 50,000 bottles of Dasani water to the relief efforts.
