Blossomgame's big night not enough as Tigers fall to Oklahoma

ORLANDO, FLA. — Sidy Djitte’s double-double and Jaron Blossomgame’s 22-point performance were not enough to overcome an early deficit for Clemson in a 70-64 loss to Oklahoma in the third place game of the Tire Pros Invitational on Sunday. The loss dropped the Tigers to 2-2 on the season, and put the Sooners at 3-1.

Djitte was impressive, playing all 40 minutes for the first time in his career. In his 99th career game, he put together a career-high 14 rebounds to go along with 14 points, which matched a career high as well. Djitte added two blocks and two steals in an active effort.

Blossomgame scored 18 of his 22 after halftime, when the Tigers trailed 35-23. The deficit grew to 18 at the 12:49 mark of the second frame, but Blossomgame began to put the Tigers on his back. He converted a three-point play that cut the lead to five with 5:06 to play, and Marcquise Reed followed with one of his four long-range makes a possession later to trim it to 58-56.

But Christian James had the answer every time the Tigers threatened, and the sophomore saw consecutive three-pointers swish through the net and extend the Sooner cushion back to eight. James finished with 17, to go along with Jordan Woodard’s team-high 21.

The Tigers return to action Friday to start a five-game homestand, beginning with High Point at 7 p.m. in Littlejohn Coliseum. Tickets are available at ClemsonTigers.com, or by calling 1-800-CLEMSON.

Postgame Notes: Djitte set career highs for minutes (40), rebounds (14) and offensive rebounds (7), while tying his career high for points (14) … Djitte made his first career three-point attempt … Blossomgame’s 22 were a season high, and the 19th time in his career he reached at least 20 points … Reed made a career-high four three-point goals.
