Camp Insider: Offers go out as talent rolls in

CLEMSON – Over 900 campers took part in Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s high school camp Wednesday morning, with several big name prospects in the house.

We’ll get right to it, and I’ll start with additional intel on the visit of 5-star offensive guard Jamaree Salyer. One longtime observer of Swinneys camp (and a former player), told me that Salyer is the best offensive line prospect he’s ever seen come through camp. He added to that and said Salyer might be the best line prospect he’s ever seen, period.

During Swinney Ball (which the media is not allowed to watch), Salyer disposed of any and all defensive linemen thrown his way. With ease. The observer said Salyer has the total package – hands, feet, quickness, you name it.

*Hanging out and watching the proceedings today was Clemson tight end commit Braden Galloway of Seneca (SC). It’s the first time I’ve seen Galloway in person, and my first thought was Jordan Leggett 2.0 (very similar at the same age). One high school coach asked me who Galloway was, and when I told him he said, “Looks like a young Jimmy Graham.”

*From everything I am hearing, 5-star QB and Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence out of Cartersville (GA) won’t be making an appearance at camp.

*Atlanta (GA) Carver 4-star safety Quindarious Monday checked into camp but didn’t work out in the morning session. He has a Clemson offer. Monday spent a good bit of time talking to defensive backs coach Mickey Conn. He has offers from Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State and Tennessee among others.

*Justin Clary, the younger brother of former Clemson center Jay Guillermo, worked out with the offensive linemen this morning.

*Also with the offensive linemen was a big dude with a full beard that made me do a double take – Brownsville (KY) prospect Logan Hagan. He was 6-5, 302-pounds as a 7th grader, and is 6-5, 350 today. Full grown man out there. I will try and get further information this afternoon.

*Spent time watching Amite (LA) prospect Ishmael Sopsher, a five-star 2019 defensive tackle. He was the standout in a big group of linemen who worked out this morning. Clemson offered Sopsher (6-4, 300) in April. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas A&M are some of his other offers.

He’s quick but also has good lower body strength. I like to see that strong base in offensive linemen and defensive tackles. He has it.

*Another standout with the defensive linemen was Twin City (GA) Emanuel County Institute 2019 defensive end Curtis Fann, who picked up a Clemson offer as soon as the session ended. Fann (6-3, 245) has received offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, N.C. State, South Carolina, and UAB since mid-May.

Clemson defensive line coach Todd Bates visited his school during the spring evaluation period. As a sophomore, he had 63 tackles, seven sacks, and five forced fumbles.

*Defensive backs coach Mike Reed had an impressive group on hand today, including Bossier City (LA) Parkway 2018 safety Israel Mukuamu. Mukuamu transferred to Parkway from Berkeley (SC), and his former head coach (Randy Robinson, who also coached at Daniel) was there as well.

*Greer (SC) 2018 cornerback Quavian White (who is being recruited by Wisconsin) was another standout.

*Cornelius (NC) Hough 2019 teammates Tyus Fields and Jalen Frazier were also on hand. Fields is the brother of Clemson cornerback Mark Fields. Another youngster we’ve seen before was brought up by Robinson – 2019 Moncks Corner (SC) Berkeley’s Tre Morrison. Morrison didn’t work with the main group, but he should have. His sister attends Clemson. Lots of upside.

*Pinson (AL) Pinson Valley’s Bo Nix (6-2, 190) was the standout in the quarterback group. Nix, the son of former Auburn quarterback Patrick Nix, previously visited in late March and earned an offer from the Tigers. He has offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Tennessee.

Two other quarterbacks we noticed were Baltimore (MD) St. Frances 2019 Jalon Jones and Midlothian (VA) Manchester 2019 Brendon Clark.
