Tigers in prime position with Alabama linebacker after Wednesday visit

Clemson held another of its major spring practice scrimmages Wednesday and two of the Tigers' most coveted 2019 prospects were on hand.

Running back Quavaris Crouch of Charlotte spent time on campus, and he spoke with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.

Another big-time prospect hosted by the Tigers was 4-star linebacker Vonta Bentley out of Birmingham (AL) Jackson-Olin. Bentley spent time with Swinney and defensive coordinator Brent Venables.

"They compared me to Mike Jones saying both of us are humble and mature and we're here for a reason. We're about business and that's what he (Venables) sees in us and that's what he likes," Bentley said. "Coach Swinney was hyped up about me. He was saying the same thing Coach Venables was, saying like we are here for a reason."

Bentley arrived on campus late Tuesday and spent time with two Clemson players – defensive end Xavier Thomas and linebacker Mike Jones.

“It was great. I got to see what school is like,” he said. “They have tutors for every class, so I got to see the academic side of things. I really like getting to spend time with the players. They tell you what it’s really like, and you get to see what college is like with classes and football.”

Bentley also spent time watching the Tigers’ scrimmage.

“The defense didn’t do very well, but I am sure they will get it all fixed,” he said. “The offense had a good day. I really like watching that running back, No. 9 (Travis Etienne). He is fun to watch.”

Clemson was Bentley's favorite over Alabama going into the visit. He said that status has not changed.

"I say they are still #1. They are showing me a lot of interest."

Bentley was at Auburn Tuesday and he's also been to Alabama and is going back there April 13th.

"Auburn coaches are all hyped about me as well, showing love, just a good vibe. Alabama is the same way," he said. "It won't be hard to leave the state. I'm really not caring about how far it is from home or whatever."

Florida and LSU also are among his offers. Bentley said at this point he's not sure if he'll sign early or graduate early.
