Peach State receiver says Tigers have "big lead" over South Carolina

No. 1 Clemson won its second national championship in the last three seasons Monday night in Santa Clara on the strength of the arm of Trevor Lawrence, the grit of the defense and the playmaking abilities of wide receivers like Justyn Ross and Tee Higgins.

The performance of the wide receivers didn’t go unnoticed, and 2020 3-star Ze'Vian Capers of Alpharetta(GA) Denmark said Wednesday night he's not that far off from becoming one of those receivers down the line in the '20 class.

Capers said Clemson is his favorite and a commitment is not far off, probably on his next visit which could come this month.

"It's a pretty big margin," Capers said of the Tigers' lead over South Carolina, Florida and Arkansas. He said he talks regularly with receivers coach Jeff Scott and recruiter Brandon Streeter. He also attended three games in Death Valley this season so he has a good feel for how he would fit in.

"It's not like they play one or two receivers. They rotate all their receivers, which is great," Capers said. "They always have a great quarterback that can throw the ball. Their offense is like literally perfect. At my high school we run a spread offense so it's kind of the same thing, so if I want to go to Clemson the offense would just be similar to what I run in high school."

South Carolina and Arkansas also have been recruiting Capers hard and he visited both during the season. He said he hears from Gamecock coach Will Muschamp every day.

"We really talk about the type of season they had and how I can be utilized and what I can bring to the table," Capers said. "He said he really needs some playmakers, and he said I'm that guy who can come in and make plays. I could boost the team's confidence and I can get South Carolina over that next step."

Capers has been a frequent visitor to Clemson and the Tigers were his first major offer.

"It was an amazing experience seeing former players, students, and staff during their homecoming," Capers told TigerNet after the NC State game. "I love everything about Clemson they have the best fans, great coaching staff, and the culture. It was great seeing Coach Brandon Streeter, Coach Jeff Scott, Coach Xavier Dye and others."

This season Capers had 60 catches for 1187 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year in Forsythe County and also was named all-region and all-state.
