Evans looks for room to run last season

Alabama receiver loves Clemson offense

J.J. Evans was receiving little to no recruiting attention entering his junior season, but after racking up nearly 1,800 yards and 18 touchdowns the Montevallo (AL) receiver has offers from some of the biggest names in college football.

Troy was the first to offer the 4-star 2020 prospect and since last fall, Evans has added offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M among others.

Evans has been in contact with co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott, whose message has been about Clemson’s ability to put wideouts in the NFL.

"He was telling me about all the receivers they have and how a lot of their receivers go to the league, and they like to play freshmen because they want to have a lot of depth at wide receiver," Evans said recently. "I like their offense because their wide receivers are a big part of their offense. They throw the ball a lot and any time that throws the ball a lot, I like to watch them."

At 6-3 and 185-pounds, Evans fits the mold of Clemson receivers and he said coaches are drawn to athleticism and precision routes.

"They (coaches) like the routes I run, they like how I get yards after the catch," Evans said. "Once I catch the ball I can get into space and get open. I can always find a way to get open."

Evans grew up an Auburn fan but will explore all of his options before making a decision.
