SCOTUS opinion

Sep 10, 2019, 7:54 AM

Whether you like or dislike Gorsuch and how he came to sit on SCOTUS, he makes a lot of sense here. My personal thoughts on SCOTUS are that rulings should be made along with what the Constitution reads and not by activism. While one can argue whether activism has good intentions the road to #### is paved with good intentions.

Yes, I get stunned looks when I correct folks on calling the USA a democracy. It is a Republic and that just confuses the heck out of way too many people.

Same with the Electorial College issue. Had a female DEM get all upset when she said her vote did not count(she voted for Hillary), I told her that was silly and misinformed. Now she got mad, told her that her vote counted in determining how the Electorial votes went in our State(HRC lost) and if that is really her gripe then Ammend the Constitution. SImple as that and also that Repubs in Ca have a much bigger gripe using her logic being that there are more Repubs in Ca. than population in our State . She got so dang mad she was close to needing a soft furry animal , crayons and a safe space.

We are a democratic republic. Republic being the noun

and democratic being the adjective. At least we used to be, as founded.

We used to be. Now, it seems that whoever gives the most money get's their policies enacted.

We the People need to stand up and quit fighting each other and fight for our democracy. It started 30 years ago and has only gotten worse over the years.

It would be more accurate to describe us as a 'partially representative democracy".

SCOTUS ruled that giving money to campaigns is free

You are exactly right. That is the worst Scotus ruling since Plessy vs Furgerson.

Agree 100 percent. Which is why I'm not sure why either side gets so giddy about who is in the White House when it's time to appoint a new justice. Both sides foolishly think it's a game of abortion chess, but the Supreme Court put away the pieces a long time ago.

The rub, though, is interpreting the Constitution.

It’s easy to say uphold the constitution, but it’s not a simple document.

Give me some examples of activism by the court.

Roe v. Wade comes to mind but even that didn’t intend to make law, they just struck down a Texas law they ruled unconstitutional.
