Orange vs Cotton Bowls

The CFP semi-finals will be hosted by the Orange and Cotton Bowls. Assuming Alabama is #1 entering the CFP, will they get the Orange or Cotton Bowl? I'm pretty sure Tuscaloosa, AL is closer to Dallas than to Miami, so it seems like Clemson would be headed to the Orange?

Probably, but not 100% sure. In 2015 when Bama played in the CFP Cotton Bowl, they were the #2 and we were the #1. SEC had a tie-in to the Cotton pre-CFP.

In any case, we are undefeated in the Cotton and 4-2 in the Orange so I don't personally have a preference. Really wish we could grab a Sugar or Rose win to complete the 'Career Grand Slam' of Tier 1 bowls. Guess I could settle for a another Natty, though while we wait.

Only scenario I see us playing in the Cotton Bowl

is as a 4 seed if we loose a game and chaos happens. I think if we make the playoffs we will be in Orange Bowl. Of the top 5 seeded teams right now in AP poll we are the only school closest to Miami, the other 4 are geographically closer to Dallas and would be go Cotton Bowl as #1 seeds, so if we are #1 or if we are #2 or 3 and Bama, ND, LSU, Michigan were #1 in all scenarios we would be playing in Orange Bowl.
