Clemson soccer preview vs. Fordham

Clemson, S.C. – The No. 13 Clemson men’s soccer team will welcome the Fordham Rams, a first-time foe, to Historic Riggs Field on Tuesday night. The match will be the second time this season that the Tigers welcome a first-time opponent to their home field, with Detroit Mercy being the first. Clemson returns home after dismantling No. 10 Notre Dame this past Friday at Alumni Stadium on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Tuesday night’s match will be the lone appearance on the ACC Network for the program, with former Tiger standout Oguchi Onyewu slated to be on the call.

Who: No. 13 Clemson Tigers (5-0) v. Fordham Rams (1-3-1)

When: Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.

Season Series:

· Tuesday’s match will be the first meeting between Clemson and Fordham.

· Fordham, a member of the Atlantic-10 Conference, is the seventh conference school to face Clemson. Overall, Clemson holds a 14-8-6 record against A-10 member schools.

· Clemson has out-scored A-10 schools by a 48-27 margin.

· The match against Fordham will be Head Coach Mike Noonan’s 14thcontest against a new opponent while at the helm of Clemson’s program. Noonan is 7-4-2 overall in these type of matches, adding to his total earlier in the season by defeating Detroit Mercy 8-0.



Clemson Notes:

· Clemson enters the match with a 5-0 record, making it the first time since 2013 the feat has been accomplished.

· Kimarni Smith leads the team with seven goals scored. Robbie Robinson (5) and Grayson Barber (4) complete the top-3 scorers for the Tigers.

· Smith scored two goals to lead the Tigers to victory Friday night. His performance against Notre Dame capped a week which saw him score five goals, a tally which earned him this week’s ACC Player of the Week nod.

· Tanner Dieterich leads the country in assists per game (1.25).

· Phillip Mayaka is second in the country in total assists with six.

· Clemson leads the nation in scoring offense, assists per game, points per game, shots on goal per game and shots per game.

· Head Coach Mike Noonan earned his 97th win at Clemson against Notre Dame on Friday night.

· Clemson’s 25 goals through five games surpasses their 2018 total of 23 goals scored.



Fordham Notes:

· Fordham enters the match with a 1-3-1 record. The Rams have played two matches on the road thus far, going 0-1-1.

· Fordham’s last match was a 5-0 victory over Holy Cross.

· The 2018 season saw the Rams go 8-5-4.

· The last time the Rams played an ACC school was on Aug. 27, 2017, against Duke, losing 0-3.

· The Rams are coached by Carlo Acquista who is in his first season at the helm of the program after serving as a scout for the New York Red Bulls the past year.

· Fordham is led by Joergen Oland in goals (3) and points (6), with Bart Dziedzic and Jack Sluys each contributing two assists to lead the team.
