It’s not any less than stars but it is much more. It’s a leadership principle. Every player on our team and every other D1 football team knows talent when they see it. When you’re looking around and you see exceptional talent on your team it elevates every other player. A team that consist of mostly average talent will typically achieve an average result.
It’s not just that blue-chip talent is important. It’s the fact that when there is a majority of blue-chip talent on the team it elevates the play of walk on‘s and two stars and three stars to achieve more than who they are.
To quote John Maxwell, “You can lose championships WITH talent (ie. Alabama) but you cannot win championships WITHOUT it (ie. USuC).” A good coach will squeeze more talent out of a team but no coach can turn water into wine.
