So apparently that hot rep socialist girl

Jan 16, 2019, 9:42 AM

is now on a major committee headed up by Waters and wanting to take a good look into the student debt crisis.

Hopefully they will come up with a solution before it all comes crashing down.

has gone up astronomically in the past few years because they know that 18 year old can get that 200K loan and that the government will pay for it if the 18 year old can't pay it anymore?

Sure there needs to be responsibility on the person getting the loan, but the system is rigged as hell because the government decided to #### with it.

Or take the case of loan forgiveness. Many people went into an easy career with good benefits like teaching because of the loan forgiveness program. Now we are finding out that the loan companies refuse to forgive the loans.

Yes, some of it is on the person getting the loan. But the system is also extremely rigged.

Is like asking your addict uncle to organize your medicine cabinet.

That analogy is like “the pot calling the kettle black”.

What opioids or other addictive drugs are in the medicine cabinet? Hypothetically speaking?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They shouldn't worry about student loan debt. That

Why can't we just let the private banks do the lending now? Take .Gov out of it. We shouldn't be footing the bill so some kid can get an Art History degree.

Until I start hearing politicians question the cost of....

higher education and the inflation thereof, I know they aren't taking the problem seriously or even identifying the problem correctly.

1- It costs too much to get a 4-yr degree. In general, state universities have lost their way and drifted from their core mission

2- Not everyone needs a 4-yr degree to be successful.

3- Those who want/need a 4-yr degree don't always need to go "away to school". Plenty of good education can be had at local colleges and universities.

4- Loans and financial aid is way too easy to get and it feeds #1 above. If the kids could no longer get all of the money needed to attend their universities, university presidents would start working on costs. As it stands now, there is no incentive to control costs and investments. In fact, there is quite the opposite and schools all fight for ranking by having better facilities, etc... I guarantee you an electrical engineer coming out of Clemson now does have any better knowledge or skills versus those that came out in 1994...but they do have better dorms, better food, better restaurants and most of them will be paying for it for the next 10 years and then some AND be deprived of the experience of struggling as a college student.
