Dino Gaudio

Mar 27, 2019, 3:37 PM

I think he could get us over the hump.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He couldn't at WFU where the hump was significantly smaller***

As I recall he took over a program in great shape too and it spiraled steadily downhill

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

pretty accurate assessment***

Are you sure that's accurate?

Mar 27, 2019, 4:36 PM

Skip Prosser's last 2 years at Wake they went 17-17 (3-13 in the ACC) and lost in the NIT, and 15-16 (5-11 in the ACC) and didn't make any tournament.

So going .500 overall the 2 years before he took over is a program in great shape?? He went 61-31 the 3 years he was the coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's revisionist history

Mar 27, 2019, 4:47 PM [ in reply to Re: He couldn't at WFU ]

It spiraled after Wake fired Dino and it has never recovered.

this ^^^

people literally have no idea what they are talking about. everyone in ws thought dino got a raw deal. two players fighting over the same girl, some partying by a couple other players, etc. most believe it was a ron wellman ego trip firing dino. wellman was a moron who finally is gone. hired his dork a$$ buddy bzdelic who trashed program and then hired a horrible replacement in manning. tigers would be fortunate to land dino

I for one am glad you are stopping. You are one of the most ignorant posters ever. You obviously think very highly of your own opinion, unlike the rest of us - RockHillTiger

But he was a young, charistmatic coach and great recruiter.

Isn't that all it takes? ;)

a boatload of money, and for fans to show up like it’s their job.

Right?

His 3 years were better than the 2 years before him and every year after. So why you being sarcastic?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No of course not.

It takes solid coaching ability too. Wink, wink.

61-31 in 3 seasons???

Re: He couldn't at WFU where the hump was significantly smaller***

Mar 27, 2019, 4:28 PM [ in reply to He couldn't at WFU where the hump was significantly smaller*** ]

He did lose in the tourney but he didn't have a chance with only 3 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He was given 3 seasons after Skip Prosser died

Mar 27, 2019, 4:32 PM [ in reply to He couldn't at WFU where the hump was significantly smaller*** ]

and went 61-31, made the NCAA Tournament in 2 of the last 3 years and was fired after losing in the 2nd round to Kentucky who had 5 first round NBA draft picks, including Wall and Cousins.

At one point he had Wake ranked #1 in the nation (I think that was his 2nd season?)

In 3 seasons he finished 7th, T2nd and 5th in the ACC.

Using Judge Keller's criteria he averaged a 4.7 place finish in the ACC, which is top of the pack.

Using Snowtown's criteria he made the NCAAT 2 out of 3 years, which is top of the pack.

I'm struggling to see where any of that is bad and after going 4-14 this year I bet Wake fans would sign up for those results again in a heartbeat.

Mar 27, 2019, 4:33 PM

Thank you!! I just don't understand what these people are taking about!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah but does he BYOA and BYOFS?

Mar 27, 2019, 6:24 PM [ in reply to He was given 3 seasons after Skip Prosser died ]

Does he bring his own admin and fan support? Cant coach without them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why in the world did WF fire him? I didn't realize he is 62,

Mar 27, 2019, 7:33 PM [ in reply to He was given 3 seasons after Skip Prosser died ]

he does look younger than that!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

then they hired Bzdelik

Mar 27, 2019, 8:02 PM

Who turned out to be one of the worst coaches in ACC history

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bzdelik was close friends with the then Wake

Mar 27, 2019, 10:30 PM

AD. That's why he was hired. He took Wake to the sewer and Colorado improved markedly when he left.

I know one thing about Gaudio, he's a heck of a recruiter. Was the lead guy on Chris Paul and several other Wake studs

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I look younger than 62, as well...

Mar 27, 2019, 8:55 PM [ in reply to Why in the world did WF fire him? I didn't realize he is 62, ]

Dino and WF is a classic case of 'be careful what you wish for' and 'the grass ISN'T always greener'.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mar 27, 2019, 7:49 PM

Of course he’s 71 now, so maybe the other UVA guy, Jeff Jones (who’s doing pretty good at ODU) might be worth a call.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he's a good coach.. . I think he's currently on

Mar 27, 2019, 4:45 PM

Chris Mack's staff. I think Chris Mack is one of the better coaches in the country. He speaks very highly of Dino.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: he's a good coach.. . I think he's currently on

Mar 27, 2019, 4:49 PM

Agreed. Wonder if he wants a head job tho. Our AD may not want him but I surely would give him a shot. He seemed very intelligent when I watched him on espn a few years back.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mack is from the Skip Prosser, Dino Gaudio tree... and he's

Mar 27, 2019, 4:51 PM

an excellent basketball coach...

I think Dino would be fantastic

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

One thing about Dino... i know he looks younger but he's

Mar 27, 2019, 6:02 PM

going to turn 62 on Saturday. He may not even be interested in taking over a program at that age. Even if he is, i doubt he would stay for long.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Geez, I thought he was younger than that

Mar 27, 2019, 6:17 PM

he has aged well, like Leonard Hamilton who's 70

Where does this stuff about Gaudio being a bad coach come from?

Mar 27, 2019, 7:07 PM

WF got too big for their britches and fired him after losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament and haven’t recovered since. If Brad had the 3 year stretch Dino had there’s a few people in here that would be lose it if we fired him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Where does this stuff about Gaudio being a bad coach come from?

Not sure. All I hear is crickets after throwing out stats to them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dino Gaudio

Mar 27, 2019, 10:42 PM

62? Isn't that too young to be a head coach in a league with Coach K and Roy?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dino Gaudio

Mar 27, 2019, 8:46 PM

I think Gaudio is a great teacher of the game. He may have learned what to do a little differently with another shot as a HC. He will get another shot somewhere and I think he'd be good for us. Very energetic coach too.
