Wine drinkers - red specifically

Feb 14, 2019, 2:07 PM

What is the best readily available, lets say priced at or below $50 a bottle? Preferably a Pinot Noir.

Lost me at Pinot

Feb 14, 2019, 2:16 PM

I like my wine like I like my coffee.

My favorite would be a bold red with a slightly musty aroma/aftertaste. That comes from age and a good bottle. Don't find many of those under $50. But I prefer Chianti and Tuscan wines for the buck they're pretty good. Castello Banfi has some very good reds at times also. Supertuscans are good too.

But again, you said Pinot, so we're not going to have common ground here.

Basically I like red wines that go awesome with a steak. A good red wine and a nice bone-in ribeye and I'm in heaven. If I ever go to death row, that would be my last meal probably. Toss in cheesecake (NY with raspberry drizzle) and a 20 year Tawny port for desert and I'm set.

Don't spend that much on a Pinot...

Feb 14, 2019, 2:35 PM

Elouan - 20-25 a bottle and made by the same guy that used to make Meiomi.

The guy sold the Meiomi name to a distributor and signed a non-compete for California Pinot. Then he moved to Oregon and started Elouan.

When Meimoi was still his baby, it was so good it drifted up from 15 to 25 or so. he sold it, and for about a year, they were still using his stock and they price was the same. Then, as they started using their own attempts to replicate his stock the price started drifting back down.

Meanwhile, Elouan starts out at 15 and starts drifting up. Elouan is amazeballs for 20 bucks. If you like Pinot, I would get that and tell your wife/girlfriend the story (minus the price part)

Well, I guess I will have to tell my wife this. Tough conversation on an otherwise good Valentine's Day.

Are you serving fish?

Feb 14, 2019, 3:24 PM

because Pinot to me is really best with fish. It's (alot of it, anyway) is grown over Oyster beds so it has a briny hint to it that some people love but I think really only pairs well with fish.

Maybe try an Orin Swift if you want to spend close to 50. Good juice.
