I just live around lots o trees and such. Figured mounting the antenna on the old Directv post would be the best thing.

You'll get the gains and won't have to worry about attenuation as a result of splitting it multiple times throughout the house.
Ultimately, what you're doing with the amplifier and antenna is making a miniature cable TV headend in your structured wiring cabinet, collecting and distributing the major signals to endpoints in your house.
