Our play calling while opponent was storming back

Sep 9, 2018, 8:39 AM

We scored twice in the 3rd quarter to go up 28-13, using Kelly’s arm. Spreading it around to Tee, Hunter, Diondre, and Amari. Also sprinkled in 3 ETN runs and 2 KB runs.

In the 4th quarter, Kelly completed 1 of 3 passes, for 5 yards, as A&M scored 13 unanswered. The whole quarter we had 15 plays:

3 pass attempts, all to Amari
1 ETN run
8 KB runs
3 punts

When the defense is struggling mightily you can’t just switch off the offense. They were able to line up for a 2-point conversion to tie a game we could have put out of reach.

Thanks for posting this to where I don’t have to go back and do it myself. Therein lies the problem and you can’t deny it. You either learn from mistakes or are destined to repeat it.

That 4th qtr is a microcosm of most of KB’s games and what frustrates a lot of Tiger fans

You mean the play calling...

right?

I want to agree, but respectfully I don't. I think it's okay to have KB keep the ball in his hands to prevent TO's as much as possible, while running the clock down and forcing TAM to use timeouts and make miracle plays. Had TAM not made miracle play after miracle play, then the strategy was perfect IMO.

We didn’t really run clock with 3 and outs

Sep 9, 2018, 9:19 AM

Those plays I listed are what we ran after A&M scored to start the 4th quarter making it 28-20. You don’t sit on the ball with a one score lead for almost a whole quarter with your defense gassed. Three and outs just give them more chances, just keeps our defense on the field. You can’t be afraid to play football. There’s middle ground between being reckless and doing nothing. And talented WR and RB didn’t come to Clemson to watch us snap it to QB and let him run play after play.

I would agree except when you have a weapon like

ETN that has potential to be a game breaker every time he touches the ball
