My exact question. Having seen the some of the Fried Onion Bowl on tape after I got tired of watching General Hospital re-runs, I will have to say that was the most lackluster boring game I have ever watched. To call Michigan inept on offense is an insult to inept college offenses. And their vaunted defense was playing against a pretty pitiful offense (except when playing FBS caliber teams like Florida and Tennessee).

I agree. When you see Michigan and So.Cal. on this list, that's proof its who you are rather than what have you done lately. Polls have no true value. Look at how many SEC teams are ranked preseason.

Although I was never a big AC/DC fan, this reminded me of a song they did. 'It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll". There are plenty of teams poised to make the jump but few, if any, will ever make it. That is what makes Clemson a dynasty already for staying on the big stage. This is also what makes Bama what they are as much as I hate to admit it.
