The decision to play a 180lb Deshaun Watson over a senior

Aug 13, 2018, 2:25 PM

Took 2.5 games (10 quarters) for our coaching staff to make.

Stop sitting here talking like it was some horrific season ending decision; its not the coaches fault that our 2 toughest games of the season came in our first 3. They went a whopping 10 quarters before they made the change and started a 180 lb true freshman QB. Everyone talking like it was a terrible mistake is just silly. Deshaun hadn't played a snap in college, had broken a collarbone in spring ball and the coaches were worried he would get hurt (which he did). Even so, it still only took them 2.5 games to give him the green light full time after they confirmed that he could handle the big stage and the physicality of college ball.

If you want to make a comparison do it with Alabama; it took Saban 14.5 games (58 quarters) of football to promote Tua over a runningback playing QB. I'll trust our coaches to make the right decision, whether its KB or TL.

It wasn't even that long. Watson took over with 4:35 left

in the 1st quarter of the FSU game.

The better comparison is Cooper over Johnson for half the season while the coach speak was that Cooper was better in all the practices, Cooper loses to Syracuse, Johnson becomes 2nd string not long after... Cooper transfers first.

Stoudt over DW4 wasn't the last time it was seen... And like you said, DW4's spring injury had a play in the decision that year.

There's a little more riding on this season.

That's where all the anxiety comes from among fans. If the coaches get it right, we should be in a great position for a Natty.

With what little I have seen thus far, it will be hard for the coaches to get it wrong! We have three quarterbacks and a ton of skilled guys who can,and will, play winning football. The defense ain’t bad either.

Unsure of a punter. Maybe we will not need one very often.
