There were transfers long before the portal. The portal is just the tool that they put their names into to streamline communication with other schools instead of back channeling like previous years.

The only thing the portal changed is that players put their name in there when they want to transfer rather than having intermediaries contact schools when they want to transfer.

I don’t understand how some can’t see that this benefits Clemson. We’ve essentially lost 4 backups whose scholarships will be used on better players.

Look at some of these other schools having mass defections (VT, FSU) that’s indicative of players not being happy. Long term, it will help Clemson as I think it’s pretty obvious our culture is the best in the country and our players are genuinely happy.

However, Dabo is right, the window for entering needs to be much smaller. Entering this late in the season is hurtful to the program you are leaving.

Also, as I understand it there are more kids entering the portal than likely available spots. Certainly not a issue in this case, but still an issue. I believe if they enter the portal they don't have to leave, but the school doesn't have to let you stay. What coach is going to let them stay.
