Just saw a meme on Facebook that said

Nov 5, 2018, 10:57 AM

“A Christian can not vote for a candidate who supports the slaughtering of babies in the womb”

I wanted to respond “but a Christian can vote for someone who repeatedly lies and attacks people on social media”?

It’s scary that the quote came from John McArthur, writer of so many Christian books and Bible commentaries yet he doesn’t seem to understand that God hates all sin.

I can find this being debated back for years - even to a quote from Mother Teresa...but cannot find that this direct quote came from John McArthur.

Here’s an entire sermon from him on the subject. He refers to Romans chapter one which talks about God judging nations who advocate sexual immorality. However Paul also mentions the following sins in verses 29-31 of that chapter:

Covetousness
Maliciousness
Envy
Strife
Deceit (this seems to be Trumps favorite)
Evil mindedness
Backbiters
Haters of God
Violent
Proud
Boasters
Disobedient to parents
Undiscerning
Untrustworthy
Unloving
Unforgiving
Unmerciful

My Dear Brother,

Nov 5, 2018, 3:26 PM

The Bible is only valuable if you read it for yourself and seek God's guidance to understand what He has for you on any particular day. It's a day by day thing, Jhop, just as was the manna which fell from heaven for the slaves escaping Egypt. That manna would not keep so God sent it daily, sufficient for that day and not the next.

Pay little attention to what others say about the Bible and especially what they think is important. Never weigh whether they agree with you, instead weigh whether or not they agree with God's Word.

God is willing and able to give you the bread which is most nourishing to you daily if you will pick it up and consume it.

OK, so no link to the actual quote by John McArthur

Nov 5, 2018, 5:25 PM [ in reply to Re: Please provide a link ]

How many sermons do you think, btw, are preached about the evils of sin from the pulpits in this nation anyway? Man, you would sure hate my sermon from this past Sunday.

If you’re in the pulpit preaching against one sin in particular and encouraging people to vote based on that one sin as if God hates it more than the others you’re right I wouldn’t like it.

And right after Romans 1, Romans 2:1-3 say this :

Therefore, every one of you who judges is without excuse. For when you judge another, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the same things. We know that God’s judgment on those who do such things is based on the truth. Do you really think—anyone of you who judges those who do such things yet do the same—that you will escape God’s judgment?

Is it a sin to support a woman’s right to have an abortion? I don’t necessarily think so.

Is it a sin to willingly lie and attack people? No doubt.

It’s all good though cause Trump prays at his rallies....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

is a sin, the premise that a Christian can't sin is obviously dead wrong.

A Christian can murder someone. He shouldn't, but he can.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Even laying aside the subject of whether "supporting"

Nov 5, 2018, 12:28 PM

It’s just a perfect example of what’s so wrong with American Christianity as we know it today.

We put certain sins on a pedestal as if God is more concerned with murder than lying.

Most “Christians”, or at least many of those with a platform, seem to resemble the Pharisees of the first century more than the Christ followers that came after Jesus.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No one voted for Trump because he is a "good christian man"

Nov 5, 2018, 12:13 PM

Because he clearly isnt.

People voted for Trump because he had a platform based on a no-BS approach to putting the government and economy back on track.

So far, Trump has done just that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No one voted for Trump because he is a "good christian man"

Nov 5, 2018, 12:25 PM

That’s simply not true. The vast majority of the Trump supporters I know (which is pretty much everyone I know) voted for him simply because of the abortion issue which isn’t getting overturned anyway and his stance on immigration and they support their support of him by claiming he’s a Christian and that he is “bringing prayer back” whatever that means. Heard a guy say that the other day.

Nov 5, 2018, 2:07 PM [ in reply to No one voted for Trump because he is a "good christian man" ]

Many people did vote for him partly because they believe he is. Smart people can see through his act in that regard, but there are many, many who think he's a man of God. Look at all the evangelists who continue to support him.

Re: Interdasting.

Nov 6, 2018, 8:42 AM

I agree with a lot of his policies but I also agree with a lot of the democrat positions as well. When Trump first became president I did and still do think a lot the hate hurled his way was unjustified.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not concerned with the moral values or the religious views of a political candidate, I’m concerned with policy.

It’s the hypocritical “Christians” that this thread was aimed at, not Trump.

And admittedly, believe it or not, a lot of my posts back then, especially the “Trump Baby...” ones were trolling.
