I don't know if any of you have ever notice, but about every Major league big HR hitters have had muscular forearm and shoulder strength, and I was wondering if those area's got a lot of attention in college BB players work out programs?
College baseball players lift weights in a very similar way to college football players.
You are correct in that the major difference is forearm strength for hitters.
However, even with a larger focus on forearms than football players, legs and core are the largest focus of baseball lifting just like football.
The reason you notice the forearms of the HR hitters is because they are not covered by the uniform.
Those guys most likely have incredibly strong legs and core strength as well, but that is not as obvious.
Fun fact: While I was in college, the basketball coaches requested that the strength coaches not schedule baseball and basketball lifts at similar times because they thought the basketball team would be embarrassed in comparison. Seeing them lift several times, the basketball players were struggling to squat 200 lbs. More than half of our baseball team squatted over 400 lbs. That included hitters and pitchers.
