It amazes me that KJ can't stick in the NBA as a defensive

specialist. Guess he can't shoot the 3 well enough to be a 3 and D guy.

him and JB

both were outstanding in G-League last season. and in the preseason they have shown glimpses of being able to stick in the NBA in reserve roles. I don't understand it myself.

I hope they both make a NBA roster eventually bc they both have the talent. Booker is playing overseas now, but he has had a decent NBA career.

There was a part time NBA player who wrote a book about his career.

As someone who was a reserve on an NBA team when he wasn't oversees, he explained how few jobs there were available because of guaranteed contracts.

It's not a completely free market.

You have to be the best player available at a specific position when a team is looking for a reserve at that position.

He would get a preseason offer from an NBA team and take it, knowing he had no chance to make that team because they already had a reserve player with a guaranteed contract who played the same position.

He was hoping someone got hurt or that another team would need a player at his position and offer him a contract.

Playing overseas is probably a better option money-wise than the G League.

The G League doesn't pay much and they typically move G League players to 2 way contracts where the player is tied to the team but the team controls how often they are with the NBA club which also controls how much they are paid.

KJ and JB lack the alpha male defensive skills

Oct 11, 2018, 11:38 AM [ in reply to him and JB ]

to stick. three things typically are key to NBA success: elite perimeter defense, elite offense, good low post defense that clogs the lane and prevents wings and guards from creating scoring opportunities in the lane.

KJ and JB are not elite offensive talents and are not elite perimeter defenders. Trevor Booker is a good offensive threat with good perimeter defense and would get 6-8 rebounds a game from a wing position... his personality on the court is very much like Draymond Green without the talk. KJ and JB will need to flip a switch to sellout defensively and bang for rebounds to get a regular season roster spot.

You have to be elite at something to stick, neither were***

Booker was a great college player but only good at

Oct 11, 2018, 4:34 PM

anything as a pro. he helped set a tough tone, in the mold of a Rick Mahorn, defensively and on the boards... but after 5 - 6 years, they can pay younger players less to bring that same toughness and intensity so Booker is now out of the league the same way teams paid a young Booker and some of those 5-6 year vets when he was a rookie were moved along in favor of his smaller contract...

He had the athleticism to defend at an elite level, that is

Oct 11, 2018, 4:36 PM

why he played as long as he did...When that was gone, he moved overseas
