The tweet apparently has been deleted. Obviously he didn't but THAT car. But....
It is a (minor) violation of NCAA rules for an NCAA athlete knowingly to allow his image to promote a business.
Bylaw 12.5.2 Nonpermissible – Promotional Activities, Current Enrolled Student-Athletes
Bylaw 12.5.2.1 Advertisements and Promotions Subsequent to Enrollment
Subsequent to becoming a student-athlete, an individual shall not be eligible for participation in
intercollegiate athletics if the individual:
a. Accepts any remuneration for or permits the use of his or her name or picture to
advertise, recommend or promote directly the sale or use of a commercial
product or service of any kind, or
b. Receives remuneration for endorsing a commercial product or service through
the individual’s use of such product or service.
That is apparently what happened. That's why the tweet is gone. I'm sure Clemson's compliance office saw the social media post and promptly got on the phone to Dabo who had a nice little chat with T. Not the brightest move ever by a student athlete. The issue now becomes if clemson self reports the violation. If they do, it's likely over.
It looks bad, but look can be deceiving. The kid made a mistake by letting a used car salesman (think about that for a second) dupe him into the situation.

They just use that car in all their promotional photos, apparently. I'd assume Tee picked up something a bit more reasonably priced.. but yes, the coots are making assumptions and overreacting.

I don't think Tee is out there purchasing a McLaren, but it's a foolish move to do anything like this. How the heck couldn't he see what people were going to say when a top-level recruit is standing in front of an exotic car? Really a bad move.

You know, it is very possible that the salesman just asked if he could have his picture made with him. Higgins could have obliged and had no idea this was going to be posted as some “advertisement.”
