Special Teams...which schools have the best year after year in FB..

And, Do they really help win natties since Clemson has terrible ST play (helped cost us a Natty in 2015 with 2 big plays not defended well) including this year I believe since not ranked in top 75.

What say & know You?

Ohio state under Meyer was consistently awesome on ST

They are the first one that comes to mind of the playoff caliber teams. Georgia has been very good recently too. Clemson is consistently terrible and Bama is generally average to below average as well so its definitely something that can be overcome in other areas.

Our biggest weakness in Special teams is punting, Bama’s is kicking field goals. I would say we are both average at special teams and both have won national championships. Our weakness in the first natty was kickoffs as we didn’t have a kicker with the leg to consistently get touchbacks and our coverage team was prone to giving up big returns. Thankfully,Potter has addressed that issue! Our current weakness is punting as we don’t have a punter that can consistently flip the field on opponents and gives up poor field position. Fortunately our defense has the ability to overcome this and get stops with our giving up points. With that said I don’t see any other school out there that is way above anyone else in special teams.

We are stuck with Spiers for one more year

Even though Carson King is a better punter, he wasn't given the job for whatever reason. We have the new freshman this year, but he will redshirt no matter how good he is.

I wouldn't bet the farm on that...***

And yet...

Spiers flipped the field after the Tigers' first possession...and that was the beginning of the end for Bama.

Perfection is unattainable and, frankly, unrecognizable. Proof in point: Clemson has two titles in three years, yet here's the 'pot stirrers' lamenting over what is lacking and/or what could have been. That's pretty sad. Look at Bama fans...making excuses for getting whipped and ignoring five championships in nine years. Perspective, like common sense, has become a unicorn.

There's nothing wrong with identifying your own weaknesses

and striving for improvement. I'm 100% sure the staff is aware of our special teams struggles.

Oh some are definitely way above others, but the thing is

that the margins between great and terrible special teams are only a handful of points per game. Special teams impact is probably only around 5% whereas offense and defense comprises the other ~95%. Bad special teams can be overcome more often than not.
