I have no problem picking up the flag on that one but many a times the call stands.

I think the refs like the drama and suspense.
They are the star of the show and NO ONE KNOWS HOW IT WILL TURN OUT.

Yep. It seems to be all about whether a player is “defenseless,” even though punt returners possess the most defensible responsibility in all of football with the fair catch opportunity, as you have previously stated.
