Youtube just announced yesterday that they're going national

Jan 24, 2019, 9:36 AM

didn't read article, so don't know what the timeline is on it....

from everything I've heard/read, YoutubeTV is the way to go for several reasons that may be more important to me than they are to you

YouTube TV

Jan 24, 2019, 9:40 AM

Only during college football season.

Netflix / Prime / rabbit ears all the time.

YouTube TV here and it is perfectly fine. Had Vue, kept

Jan 24, 2019, 9:40 AM

going up. YouTube TV is, to use the words of our FABULOUS SC STATE AG, "wasted, baked, fried, cheeched, dank, stupid, wrecked, all words used to describe a medicine."

Hulu Live

Jan 24, 2019, 10:13 AM

They just jacked the price up, but I'll still pay it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Hulu Live

Jan 24, 2019, 10:16 AM

So you just have Hulu Live and the internet? Also, how much do you pay for month on how many tv's? Thanks ahead for the insight. I am still on regular cable.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Hulu Live

Jan 24, 2019, 10:30 AM

I have Netflix, too, but yeah, Hulu, Netflix, Internet.

I only have 2 TVs. I pay $47.49 for Hulu Live. That includes Live TV (only channel that's missing really is AMC), On Demand TV with no ads and Cloud DVR.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Considering where you live, I'd say the best option would be

Jan 24, 2019, 10:26 AM

to call Northland Cable in Seneca and ask them to run a single coaxial cable all the way to your house.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are incorrect sir

Jan 24, 2019, 10:28 AM

I've been stalking YouTube TV for months. When I checked yesterday, it IS available in the area. I plan to move to it after researching the streaming options.

MauldinT

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I checked last week

Jan 24, 2019, 10:34 AM

I don't check it daily, but I did ask my assistant to. Apprently she has failed at this task and henceforth, I am looking for a NEW assistant. All interested applicants please form a line to the right, haters to the left

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have been checking 2 or 3 times a week

Jan 24, 2019, 11:18 AM

It's kind of stupid - like watching paint dry stupid, but imagine my joy yesterday when it showed up as available, cause...

I HATE SPECTRUM.

Youtube TV has a good bit more channels that Hulu live.

Jan 24, 2019, 10:30 AM

It also has "6 DRV's", and allows 3 streams at a time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Youtube TV has a good bit more channels that Hulu live.

Jan 24, 2019, 10:31 AM

How is the On-Demand programming?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

6 'accounts' each with own DVR, I guess...but it's unlimited

Jan 24, 2019, 10:33 AM [ in reply to Youtube TV has a good bit more channels that Hulu live. ]

and yeah, 3 of those 6 can stream simultaneously.

Also, @F-Section, it depends on where you check the availability checker thingy....apparently, my workplace blocks part of that function, so it only returns "Not available in your area" or whatever, no matter what zip i put in.

Do the same on my phone, or at home, and VIOLA, it's available

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is news I can use

Jan 24, 2019, 10:35 AM

Vue

Jan 24, 2019, 10:35 AM

Really enjoy it. Everything seems to work just fine and its easy to navigate everything. Ive had an issue with buffering, but I think that is an internet issue and not necessarily a Vue issue.

I use Sling during football season.

Jan 24, 2019, 11:22 AM

$30 for some decent channels plus the espns I need. Basketball season isn't as good since we play on the fox sports stuff and I don't want to pay more for it.

Only watch one tv at a time at my house though

Re: HD Antenna and KODI

Jan 24, 2019, 12:11 PM

haven't paid for TV in over 2 years.

All CFB, NFL, MMA on reddit FTW.

I don't miss anything I want to see. I may have to watch it a day later, but I did that with Dish anyway. DVR and watch whenever. KODI is basically a huge DVR, with every channel and provider.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I tried KODI, but just couldn't get into it

Jan 24, 2019, 12:16 PM

not to mention that the add-ons I was set up with (by friend) were completely unreliable, and IF they worked, quality was usually less than acceptable.

Plus, it doesn't (didn't) work on Roku

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I tried KODI, but just couldn't get into it

Jan 24, 2019, 12:31 PM

I use Amazon FireStick. Add-ons do change, or links go bad from sources within them.

Current working setup:

TV Shows and Movies:
Exodus
Incursion
Placenta

Live TV:
cCloud TV
Mobdro

One good "setup" workflow would be to install Supreme Builds, and allow it to update (actually prompts you to install updates). Keep good working add ons that way.

I also have another app that installs right on top of Firestick (like KODI does) called FreeFlixTV. Stupid ads at times, but good selections.

why ain't y'all waitin to see who is gonna carry ACC Network

Jan 24, 2019, 1:11 PM

seems THAT will be a huge delineator in what you may want.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

because there's no contracts with these services

Jan 24, 2019, 1:13 PM

so no need to wait til August or make a commitment

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

good to know for future reference.

Jan 24, 2019, 1:20 PM

fortunately I've not developed a substance dependency forcing me to use up my disposable income on oddly-named beer products, so I am still well off enough to splurge on the old reliable satellite dish.

But there's always tomorrow to worry about.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had Sling; now have Vue

Jan 24, 2019, 1:53 PM

I had sling but canceled after they billed be over $100 for a boxing match that I didnt order.

literally, I was sitting at the dinner table when I get a "receipt" of purchase of a boxing match. I immediately called Sling and they refused to cancel the "order." I filed a complaint with AMEX and I won out; canceled Sling and signed up for Vue and havent looked back.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgbadge-ringofhonor-conservativealex.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just signed up for Youtube TV in Florence yesterday

Jan 24, 2019, 2:13 PM

I had just signed up for a trial of Hulu Live TV this week, when I saw Youtube TV went national yesterday.

Already canceled the Hulu - Youtube TV is a lot more streamlined and easier to navigate. Canceled the ol Directv today, too.

Pro tip from Reddit: if you have anyone of the female persuasion that needs HGTV and all of the reality TV that Youtube doesn't have, you can get for Philo TV for $16/mo.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We use 50 to 60gb a day.

Jan 24, 2019, 4:34 PM

1.5TB+ a month. Have Sling. Pretty good. If you're paying by bandwidth I'd pass. Streaming uses a ton. Sling like 58 bucks and get sports package and Hallmark for the wife.
