As of today, who do you think is the greatest receiver......

Jan 11, 2019, 12:18 PM

in Clemson history?

I still think it's Sammy Watkins but it's ###### hard to say for sure.

Best Is The Standard

The best for Clemson, to me, is still Sammy.

But Ross can take that spot over the next couple years.

Hopkins certainly has proven to be the best at the next level.

And of course, I don’t know enough about the 1980’s and earlier.

Ross may take this spot in 2 years, but right now it's Watkins if you're talking about just how good he was at the college level. Hopkins was always a better technical receiver, and you're seeing that at the NFL level, but you can't write off the fact that Watkins was a good technical receiver and was also generally just faster than anybody on the field in college.

different era but i like jerry butler also rod gardner

and yes i like sammy watkins, huntter renfro.

Rod was pretty special

Comparatively speaking, he was the only receiver on the field for the Tigers. Everyone knew the ball was coming to him and the defense still couldn't stop it.

A tougher question is who is the best Clemson QB of all time

Jan 11, 2019, 12:27 PM

I would've said DW4 before Monday. Today...I'm not so sure.

Definitely Sammy.

Jan 11, 2019, 12:28 PM

Nuk would give him a run for the money if he hadn't missed that first spring practice playing basketball. What a waste.

Derrick Hamilton was pretty good for 3 years. Wish he would have come back for 1 more.

Close debate between Nuk and Sammy.

The biggest difference is the offense and the QB in their respective freshman years.

Nuk had to deal with the lesser version of Kyle Parker and a bad offense as a freshman.

Sammy got the benefit of Morris and Boyd as a freshman.

I think the hype of the surprising 2011 season and the fact that he had 2 years being the #1 target causes a lot of fans to think it is easily Sammy.

Nuk's junior season was absolutely ridiculous! He was also the only weapon on offense as a freshman after Ellington went out with an injury. Parker just didn't produce.

Similarly I think Ross is jumping Higgins in a lot of people's minds because Higgins had to deal with Bryant at QB as a freshman instead of getting to be in a big play passing offense.

Ross seems to be a step quicker and more elusive than Higgins. Very similar to the Sammy/Nuk situation. Happy both are back for at least 1 more year together though.
