Not sure there was much you could do about Barnes.

Texas I can understand. Why someone would leave Clemson for DePaul is the head scratcher. Purnell's legacy died there.

Purnell was having an affair. His wife made him leave clemson because of his mistress. Not kidding

I love these rumors about Barnes and OP, you have any

evidence to support it? Because basically what you are saying is that his wife made him leave Clemson to move to Chicago and become the highest paid coach in college basketball because he was having an affair, am I understanding that correctly?

Barnes said Pickens County School district sucked! Hey Rick

you should've seen what happened to the district when Bill D'Andrea's wife was named Superintendent. What a train wreck that was!!
I can't blame Rick for going to Texas, though. Still love the guy and wish he was coaching here.

I would be very surprised if the school district was the actual reason Barnes left Clemson!

playbook to manufacture this butthurt BS as a face saving distraction because successful coaches chose to move on, and anybody who still clings to these claims without a shred of proof is just a loser... period

Barnes and Purnell each left for the same two reasons:
Feb 13, 2019, 2:31 PM
[ in reply to Re: Not sure there was much you could do about Barnes. ] |

1. They weren't recruiting well and knew that they were going to see a downturn in the program in 2 years. 2. They had opportunities to get raises elsewhere and jumped at the chance while they were hot commodities.
Say all you want to about rumors that they were having affairs and their wives made them leave, but even if true, that was a distant third behind the two reasons above.

Purnell must've been more worried and desperate

Since DePaul isn't nearly the job that Texas is. The continuos first round losses in march madness probably made him feel like he had less wiggle room

Year two records for Shyatt and Brownell
Feb 13, 2019, 2:37 PM

illustrates the dip in recruiting seen under Barnes and Purnell, respectively.
It's easy to just say that both Shyatt and Brownell are idiots and don't know what they are doing, but in reality, the situations they inherited were only good ones in year one, before the recruiting struggles of their predecessors were felt.

We never have hit the abysmal depths under Brownell that we did with Shyatt in charge.

Easy to see why the Clemson administration backed coach Barnes when he was standing up for the Tigers when the ACC showed their a$$. Class act. Always was. He IS the basketball edition of Coach Swinney and should have never been allowed to leave.
