Best ACC divisional alignment

Jan 14, 2018, 4:01 PM

It’s that slow time of the year, so why not talk about realigning divisions? Rule #1: no new teams since expansion won’t happen without ND and ND won’t join.

I’d propose an alignment that recognizes the ACC for what it is: a shotgun wedding between the old ACC and the Big East.

East division
BC
Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Louisville
VT
Miami
WF (they take one for the team)

Atlantic division
UVa
UNC
NCSU
Duke
Clemson
GT
FSU

Obviously, the FSU-Miami game would be a protected annual rivalry, much like the B1G does with Indiana-Purdue. WF might also want to play Duke annually, but nobody else cares about that one.

with that alignment, who do you propose our annual

I say get rid of annual rivals and rotate through the opposing division.

No permanent cross division rivals except for FSU - Miami and maybe WF-Duke.

What about VA Tech/UVA? I know it’s been pretty one sided the last decade or so, but I think people from that state would not like to see that go away as an annual rivalry game.

Why?

"the slow time of year"????

We're in the middle of the basketball season and baseball is getting ready to crank up. If you're not paying any attention to all of that, you're missing out.

But if you lopsided the divisions like another conference

FSU-Miami annual plus Wake / Duke also. We'd all play every 3-4 years, and FSU and Miami are likely to regularly meet in the ACCCG.

Say what? Our Tigers would be a regular in that ACCCG.

Would make more sense to switch UVA & Wake

Jan 14, 2018, 5:16 PM

because you know UVA & VATech have to play every year. Not sure Miami would be happy with all their travel, but they did used to be in the Big East. Probably wouldn't want to feel like they are back in it!

Here’s the thing about UVa - they love the old ACC, so they’re likely to leave for another conference when the GOR runs out if you put them up there.

Re: Best ACC divisional alignment

Get rid of divisions all together. Play an 8 game conference schedule. Let each team play three permanent annual rivals and rotate two groups of 5. The two teams with the best conference records meet in the ACCCG.

With this set-up you'll play every school atleast twice every four years, which is something I'm sure would be something to sell to recruits.

move wake to the atlantic
