You don’t take shots with time left on shot clock late in the game. Gives the team more time to come back

You run your offensive set and if you get an open shot you take it.

That is the definition of playing not to lose. Run your regular offense but with patience looking for a high quality shot. Running the play clock down to 8 seconds before you start to look for a scoring opportunity is idiotic at best.
