What is Brad Brownell's buyout for this new contract...

Jan 24, 2019, 9:34 PM

He just got? I've seen people mention $13 million but I never saw it on any of the stories when he signed the contract. Please provide a link of it?

The Compensation Committee approved a contract extension for Clemson men's basketball coach Brad Brownell, punctuating one of the program's best seasons — and off-seasons — to date. The eighth-year head coach's new deal keeps him in Upstate South Carolina until April 2024 and is worth up to $15 million.

that says nothing about the buyout.. just what he could earn over the life of the contract.

badge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes but what is buyout?

Jan 24, 2019, 9:47 PM [ in reply to Re: What is Brad Brownell's buyout for this new contract... ]

That's what he will be making for 6 years, but if they parted ways, what would each pay if they didn't want to continue it?

Who would you rather us get as our coach?

Jan 24, 2019, 10:07 PM

Who is he?
How much do you think we should pay him per year?
What about the offer you would give him would make Clemson an attractive option for him?

Anyone can complain. Please offer solutions.

Who cares? We don't even know who is available. There are 100's of options that would jump at the job if we are also accounting for assistants that would like an opportunity. Your questions are odd in a way. You don't think our AD needs to be the one to figure that out? You don't think he knows how to make that search and find the available candidates to interview? The fans on this site wouldn't have recommended Dabo when our AD chose him. You could have asked the same meaningless questions back then as well. What we knew back then was that we wanted Bowden gone. We knew we wanted West gone before him. We knew we wanted Shyatt gone. When something isn't working well you try new things. No, nobody knows exactly who the next coach should be, nor what his contract details need to be or what the school is willing to pay. That's where the AD comes in and gets a pool of candidates and figures it out. After we know who is interviewing, return and ask which one we hope we land. The AD is the one that is hired for the solutions and not the fans. That why they have these things called "General Managers" in MLB. It's not up to the fans to come up with exact solutions. The fans solution should be to trust our AD to figure it out.

We should not expect any more. Times have changed.

Tommy Bowden is a good Christian man.

850k after this season and then 425k after next season.

Jan 25, 2019, 4:02 AM

"Under the terms of Brownell’s former contract, the university would owe him $3.5 million if he were fired at the end of last season and $3.0 million if he were terminated at the end of the ‘17-’18 season or ‘18-’19 season. The contract as been amended to significantly shrink these buyout figures. If Brownell were to be terminated at the end of the upcoming season, the buyout would now be $1.7 million and would shrink to $850,000 if he were terminated prior to April 30, 2019 and $425,000 if terminated prior to April 30, 2020."

I think next year will be his last, because next year we should be worse and it's only 425k of course. I don't see them firing him this year. I bet we do alright this 2nd half of the season. Our schedule gets way easier.

Too bad Phillips didn't do the same type hedging when he gave Bowden that last contract. DRad may have a future on Wall St.
