Who is your Mt. Rushmore of CFB head coaches in infamy?

Dec 5, 2018, 8:44 AM

This has been a popular question going around with the Urban Meyer situation. Personally, I wouldn't quite have him on this list, but I know some would. My top 4 are as follows:

J. Paterno
W. Hayes
A. Briles
B. Petrino

Honorable Mention goes to L. Kiffin and H. Freeze

DJ Durkin needs an honorable mention

I’d also add Pete Carroll for ditching USC when his cheating was discovered and he left without suffering the consequences.

The top of my list is Woody Hayes. That guy was an absolute slug. He is the single greatest reason I hate O31O State. That any university would have a statue of this guy and name their athletic complex after him tells me everything I need to know. I hope tOSU loses every competition they ever play in every sport for as long as time remains. Go Tigers!

Almost all of these are recent. Imagine how many more

coaches likely did horrible things over the years that were never exposed. Modern technology and information has made it very, very difficult to cover up and conceal these types of things.

True. I didn't even include guy like Ron Meyer of SMU

Dec 5, 2018, 8:57 AM

who got caught paying off guys like Eric Dickerson and eventually caused that program to get the death penalty.

I would think though to be on the Mt. Rushmore, you'd have to be a really good coach who won a lot of games for an extended period of time to go along with major indiscretions on and/or off the field.

You have to throw Barry Switzer and Jackie Sherrill in there. A guy I never could stand who rode a squeaky clean image but had his share of shenanigans is Vince Dooley. They basically ran the UNC scam for a few decades until Jan Kemp blew the whistle.

Ron Meyer deserves a spot front and center

SMU got the freaking DEATH PENALTY from his shenanigans.

Mike Price gets the comedy slot if there is one, for being the Alabama coach who didn't even get to coach a single game.

Paterno, Hayes, Ron Meyer(SMU Death Penalty) and Jimbo Fisher.
Fisher is just a "Scum-Bag",IMO!

I would not put Woody Hayes in that group. He had one

bad "snap" moment, and it cost him his job. The others on the list fostered a despicable culture in one form or another. Paterno for sure would be the figurehead at the top of the mountain of shame in my book, for what he allowed to continue to happen. Art Briles right up there as well, as he even had help from others at Baylor to perpetuate his crimes. Compared to those two, Petrino is the USUK of the bunch, dragging on the coattails.

I would toss Bobby Bowden in. He enabled plenty of felons. One summer alone, he appeared in over 20 hearings as a character witness for his players.

Not quite coaches but it would be the Ped State admins.

Petrino, Curley, Schultz, and Spanier all with their heads turned.

Alabama’s almost coach Mike Price “it’s rollin”
