Cornhole Boards - Charlotte Area

Dec 4, 2016, 8:42 PM
IMG_5170.jpg(511.4 K)

Mechanical engineering student at Clemson looking to make some money over Christmas break to get out to Arizona for our semifinal game. I can do any combination of orange paw on purple, white on orange, orange on white, or white on purple; the boards are finished with several clear-drying coats of polycrillic gloss for protection and aesthetics. Included are two regulation boards with 6" hole and 8 regulation bags, 4 of each color. Boards take about a week to make.

Looking for $200 with the first $100 up front to cover cost of materials. Willing to deliver if reasonable distance (I make them out of Charlotte) or potentially meet halfway.

I can be reached at bcrowno@g.clemson.edu for additional details, including pictures of other work that I've done.

I already have. I've made many sets and sold them for

$100 each. Would you like for me to make you a set?

I'm good, appreciate the offer though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is where I highly doubt your business accumen

Dec 5, 2016, 10:42 AM

Why not buy sets for $100 and sell them for $200 and avoid the work and cost of materials?

Please don't tell me you enjoy making them. Otherwise you'd have inventory and not make us wait for a week.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: This is where I highly doubt your business accumen

Dec 5, 2016, 10:44 AM

Paying $100 for a pre-made set wouldn't cut out the cost of materials, plus I don't dislike making them myself. Main reason I don't have an inventory banked up is because I don't have the time or resources while I'm at school, have to do it when I'm home for breaks.

Are these officially licensed with Clemson University,

Dec 5, 2016, 10:19 AM

The ACC, and the NCAA? If so, I'm in. I just don't want any knockoffs.

Re: Are these officially licensed with Clemson University,

Dec 5, 2016, 10:31 AM

For what it's worth, I've used the plotting services in the Clemson library before to print my stencil template and told them what it was for, and they said it was ok.

Guessing that's not the licensing you're looking for though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm out.

Good day, sir.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What kind of poorfolk wood are you using for these?

Dec 5, 2016, 10:27 AM

I mean, for $200 you are using like Home Depot plywood or something?

Get us a quote for a set made from Agarwood and you may get some takers. This forum is a collection of the folks with the finest taste among the entire CU alumni base and trust me when I tell you that price is no matter for us.

TIA

Aged wood from the trees on Clemson's campus

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really?

Dec 5, 2016, 10:42 AM [ in reply to Re: What kind of poorfolk wood are you using for these? ]

see the FOR in my handle stands for FORESTRY. I ain't a FORESTER, but I'm still a WOOD guy and I like WOOD so now I'm interested. Not that I'm interested in buying a cornhole set at this time, but interested in the fact that you're making them with WOOD from trees from God's country that I may have hugged, bored, clinometered, etc. I'm guessing, if you're serious, the frame work is God's wood, but the plywood is home depot plywood, right? Just wondering. Aged wood would make terrible peeler logs and if you had the $200,000,000 to build a plywood mill to make said plywood, you probably wouldn't need ticket money.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'd rather see it in a Coosa composite board or even Okoumé

Dec 5, 2016, 10:38 AM [ in reply to What kind of poorfolk wood are you using for these? ]

to keep the potential for rot to a minimum. Of course, it should be sprayed with a West Systems Epoxy BEFORE painting it with Awl Grip.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

####. You're picky. I'll take mine in Ipe

Dec 5, 2016, 10:45 AM

do you even have a yard big enough to hole the corn now a days?

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Front yard only.

Dec 5, 2016, 10:55 AM

Side is filled with dog poop and a shed-mahal that holds my golf cart and beer fridge. Gotta have priorioties. I could stack the cornhole boards in the front yard, and chain them to the mailbox to prevent theft.

Coosa would be preferable to me as it has a higher density and the loading characteristics are much better for even a 7 layer ply sheet of Ipe compared to proportionate thickness of Coosa.

But Coosa is heavy, and hard to work with without a CNC router and diamond tipped bit. Ipe, however, is only available in African rain forests, so destroying the earth to make my cornhole boards is an important plus. I mean who is at the top of the food chain here? MY CORNHOLE BOARDS SHOULD BE, that's who.
