Trevor Lawrence, concussion and future damage?

Sep 29, 2018, 4:29 PM

Another player was diagnosed with stage 2 CTE at 31 years old. With that hit impact Lawrence down the road: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/09/27/sports/football/nfl-cte-daniel-teo-nesheim.html

Did you see all the times Eric Dungey was knocked out in past games on that replay clip? I'd be worried if I was him. Lots of brain damage there.

I didnt know Dungey had been knocked cold a couple times. Scary stuff seeing a person's lights go out like that.

it is lineman that have the most problems, I have not heard of Many QB outside of Terry Bradhshaw that had any long term damage to their brains. Lineman basically get hit on every single play.

I think your right with the prevalence being higher in the Olineman/Dlineman. But, you had the case of the Hilinski kid at WSU (quarterback). He was only 21 when they diagnosed him with stage 1 CTE. He did play linebacker before the age of 14. Just worried. One bad hit and it can cause the tau protein build up, we know that from military blast.

If you know anything about CTE, you know it's not caused

Sep 29, 2018, 4:59 PM

By a single, hard hit to the head. Rather, it's repeated small hits to the head over several years.

I agree with you that repetitive head trauma is the causal factor for most inflicted with CTE. A study on that came out this spring. With that said, nueropathologist are seeing this in military veterans who just got back from combat. Are they experiencing repetitive tackling or is it from bomb blast?
