Taking my wife to NYC for our anniversary.

May 18, 2019, 5:45 PM

Any recommendations for our anniversary dinner? It’s our first trip to the city.

Sal Anthony's on Third Avenue and 19th Street. Not glitzy but a warm atmosphere with excellent food. And happy anniversary! :)

For steak, you do Peter Luger’s. Period. S&W is good, but it’s a chain...Make sure you bring cash.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree - Peter Luger's is pricey........

May 18, 2019, 7:13 PM

but is great! The atmosphere, beef, and service are excellent. And, yes, you do need to pay with cash. Make a reservation and let them know you'll be coming for your anniversary - they will take care of you.

Carmine’s is pretty solid for an Italian option. I wouldn’t go for the anniversary dinner. This place is more family style. Everything is served family dinner style. Massive portions on platters.

May 18, 2019, 8:52 PM

if so, West Shore Steak & Seafood on Staten Island. Good eats, a little pricey.

My daughter from NYC is visiting this weekend Here are her suggestions: In Manhattan, try Felice 64 (homemade Italian, excellent house wine from the owners’ organic vineyard in Tuscany), Patsy’s and Carmine’s are very touristy and crowded, Another option is Lupa in Greenwich Village

The best is actually in Brooklyn - Al Di La, Locanda Vini e Olii, Frankie’s 457, Lilia

For steak, try Beatrice Inn if you want to splurge, Peter Luger is wonderful, and Bowery Meat Company is terrific

A Jean-Georges restaurant. Great for anniversary.

Stay away from Carmines. It's like Olive Garden meets

May 18, 2019, 9:50 PM

Cracker Barrel. It's a chain restaurant.

Carbone is insanely good for Italian. Women gush over the decor and the food.

Porter House has awesome steaks, is jaw-droppingly beautiful and overlooks Central Park.

Consider Roberta’s in Bushwick, 261 Moore St, Brooklyn.
Also, Russ & Daughter, 127 Orchard St, and Barney Greengrass, 541 Amsterdam Ave, in Manhattan are great places for lunch.
Happy Anniversary!

If she likes soul food, there are several good places in Queens.

Now for me, I prefer to get off the beaten path a bit and have found some good restaurants for locals in Brooklyn without all the tourists.

I assume since it’s your first time you’ll be staying around Times Square (I don’t recommend but I get it from tourist perspective). Quality Italian and Quality Meats are great options nearby. 58ish and 6th Avenue. Not so touristy but great food. My office is around the block so I am at those locations fairly often. Enjoy

The Capital Grille-3 locations. We went to the one near the Chrysler bldg. Great steak and food. They knew it was our 30th and treated us well! Champagne to start, rose petals on a perfect table location and delicious complimentary dessert at the end. I highly recommend it.

The View atop the Midtown Marriott Marquis - the only revolving restaurant in NYC. Go at dusk and watch the city light up. Good meal and they offer a good pre fixed option.

If you like Italian , you can’t go wrong with Carmine’s .
It’s been about 5-6 year since I ate there but it’s good and not too expensive. A lot of movie scenes have been shoot their and it’s a great dining experience. If I’m not mistaken everything is a la cart
so take a big appetite.

Avoid the tourist traps like half of these people said.
