I hope within the reality that he is okay and ready for next game. Regardless who starts or whatever, he will be needed this season.
Odd though one says it was heart racing, other two say "chest bruise"....

Severe pain from the chest bruise could affect his BP/pulse. I hate it that he's hurt at all but thankful it isn't broken ribs or internal injuries.

"Racing" might just be the word he used. I've strained

chest muscles a few times, and the increased tightness and/or additional 'swelling' (as might be the case w/ a bruise) makes your heartbeat VERY noticeable. It's kind of a scary feeling until you either get checked out, or it happens enough (source: me) that you know what's happening.

I would be fine if this is what gives the coaches a politically correct excuse to start Trevor Lawrence. All the games from now until the playoff are good practice games for Trevor. We need Trevor's arm in the playoffs, not Kelly's legs.

than any football game. The words "politically correct" don't seem to be appropriate when talking about a young man's health, especially his heart.

You’re either a coot, or an idiot. Either option points to you being both.

An injury would be a true tragedy, imo.

They were likely concerned about a possible myocardial contusion, or bruised heart. That kind of injury can cause a rapid heart rate. Can happen with car wrecks and falls that impact the chest area. Can be a life threatening injury in some cases, but that's rare. Looks like he checked out ok or he would not have been allowed to return to the field, so that's a good sign. Actually, kinda surprising that you dont see that injury more often in football considering all the massive hits that happen at the college and pro levels.

I would agree that it might be a cardiac contusion to some small degree .They would not have done the EKG if they didn't consider that a possibility.
Nonetheless, I hope they won't push his return too hard without absolute certainty. The ankle injury last year and his return so soon was obviously a mistake last year which earned him the concussion.

"A chest bruise" is nonsense. It takes 24-48hrs for a cardiac contusion
Sep 15, 2018, 7:14 PM

to show up. An ekg tells you the electrical component of your heart is working, so thats good, but doesn't tell you if theres damage. Xrays can show you bones, but not much else this early. It will be 24-48hrs for cardiac or pulmonary "bruising" to manifest, just like a bruise on your arm is not immediate.
We'll really know Mon night. Hope KB is alright!!

I said that was likely a suspicion and the reason for the ekg due to the unusual response of a sustained elevated heart rate following a tackle.
As differential diagnosis following the way he fell with those presenting symptoms...it was certainly a possibility. A rare one but possible.

Yes, everyone is speculating and soywaker is correct. If it’s a bruised sternum then it will mess with your breathing and could most likely been psychological response and made his heart race. But you’re not going to know until tomorrow or Monday.
I will pray that’s it. If it is a bruised sternum then I’d say imo it’s highly unlikely he’ll play the next couple games. I know with mine it was weeks. Painful to breathe strong, use your arms etc.
We need you kb. There’s not a Tigers fan out there that’s not pulling and praying for you. Anyone that would hint at this gets another player time is in no way a Clemson fan and would be a pretty darn sick puppy.
Get well kb, God Bless.
Go Tigers

Since we are all speculating on the cause of his elevated heart rate, could it have been a psychological-emotional issue?

Absolutely. It would seem he had blunt force trauma to the lateral rib cage if nothing else...likely harder for him to take a deep breath due to immediate inflammation and pain...that feeling could certainly cause anxiety leading to an elevated heart rate. Likely is as simple as that. But good to hear our medical staff thinks outside the box as well though especially considering the disgraceful situation that happened at Maryland!
