Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney announced Wednesday that the top two defensive tackles on the current Clemson depth chart will miss spring practice due to injur Read Update »

Dabo didn’t sound mad about the Williams injury

Feb 6, 2019, 2:59 PM

He said they’re kids and need to enjoy the college experience. Williams appears to have hurt it in a basketball game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow, isn't this our thinnest position on the team?

Feb 6, 2019, 2:59 PM

Oh well, still floating on the Bama beat down and national championship 44-16!!!!!!!!!!!

Today sucked though.

Feb 6, 2019, 3:18 PM

It was that dang scrawny ### Bama kicker that must have hurt Nyles. Probably got him with his skinny elbows when Nyles tackled him during that fancy trick play Saban tried on us. Now it all makes sense!

Are you a heavy drinker? You seem batshiit drunk most of the time.

Did you go to Clemson?

Que the Crickets........

Why do dogs always race to the door when the doorbell rings? It's almost never for them.

It's obvious Clemson will lose the Spring Game.

Feb 6, 2019, 3:08 PM

It kinda makes me happy that I didn't buy tickets.

Are their any tickets left? I’d love to take the family to the spring game!!

Anybody willing to sell or give their tickets to a needy family lol???

It’s going to be awesome to see the new talent.

We keep getting better & better everyday, in every way!

Let’s Go Tigers!

Feb 6, 2019, 3:06 PM

Wish the loaded 2020 defensive class had signed this year. We can’t afford to lose much on the D-line, especially at DT. Hope Pinckney and Williams have a speedy recovery and the freshmen are quick learners!

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 3:11 PM

It’s hard to replace the likes of Wilkins / Lawrence inside and injuries suck but I think our linebacker play is going to be elevated this year.

Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lawrence didn't play against #1 and #3 and we smoked them

Feb 6, 2019, 3:26 PM

We will be ready.

We moved Xavier Kelly inside? I must have fallen asleep under a rock somewhere.

Feb 6, 2019, 5:31 PM

This is exciting to me...I love Nyles and know he'll start, but I think Xavier Kelly has the most potential at the position. People forget he was our top prospect back in 2017 and a ridiculous athlete. He just hasn't had Room on the depth chart to put it together.

Maybe this helps us develope depth at DT over the spring.

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 3:21 PM

Dabo knows these two can play. Opens up reps for the new guys. Get a good look at what rest of team can do. Hate they are hurt, but nothing serious. Dabo may want to shut down that intramural basketball team though.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 3:58 PM

I think Dabo wants his DTs and DEs to have really good hand eye coordination, blocking a shot on the basketball court uses the same muscle skills as tipping a pass at the LOS! Besides it is good exercise.

Worst position possible for this to happen to...

Feb 6, 2019, 3:24 PM

But it's certainly not the end of the world.

Re: Worst position possible for this to happen to...

Feb 6, 2019, 4:17 PM

Nope, not the end of the world but it’ll sure make their day. They were already sky high at lunch over sorrels. I really thought that might be our little surprise today... or at least a last minute DL signee.

Have to give credit where credits due, they smoked us on dline recruiting this year.

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 4:13 PM

Coach V is working on a 2 down linemen scheme with 5 LBs as we speak. Just walk two or three of them up into the gaps and blitz every play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 4:25 PM

BV will have a great D no matter the injuries. Absolutely, in addition, the offense will cover this year.

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 5:42 PM

If both Pinckney and Williams are 100% by the first game we should be fine. Looks like we have X. Kelly and Jeffries behind them and then the two recruits - Davis and Johnson. A prolonged recovery or any additional injuries may put us in a bind. I know Dabo doesn’t like to take transfers. Any chance he takes an experienced DT transfer under these circumstances?

Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries

Feb 6, 2019, 6:21 PM

I would agree this, if any time would be a chance to get one. What about that fella from Michigan that has two years left. I understand why he doesn’t but sometimes you just have to. Never know the situation with Cash either or other injury or someone quit and becomes a jehava witness... who knows.

Wonder if that grey shirt oline mason has ever played D? Might be his chance. Afterall, everyone just knew Yeargan was coming back.

From what I’ve seen

Feb 6, 2019, 6:22 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Both Clemson starting DTs out of spring practice with injuries ]

If you are “down” to playing X Kelley you are doing ok! That kid is a playet

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: From what I’ve seen

Feb 6, 2019, 6:37 PM

I think X Kelley rocks. My concern is more rotation and depth if we experience any other setbacks at this position.

Re: From what I’ve seen

Feb 22, 2019, 5:46 PM

We really have a lot of talent ..but the lack of size and mass might give us trouble with a good offensive line coming at us. ..
I know the coaches are in control but i don't know why we have not signed any major big talent at the inside defensive tackle spot??
