Just watched Dabo's presser

Sep 25, 2018, 3:44 PM

Pretty good and seemed like an honest assessment as far as the QB's go except for one glaring thing...

Dabo said, "we don't have to change the offense at all no matter who is in at QB". That is blatantly inaccurate. The downfield throws and crossing routes are almost NEVER called when KB is in.

changing the offense and calling something are two different

things

So are different personnel groupings, formations, etc

They are rarely the same when TL is in vs. when KB is in, therefore it is a different offense.

apologies

even though it may be obvious that calls are different he may want

Sep 25, 2018, 3:46 PM

To try to keep the keys to his offense and not just hand them out to the opposition.

Dabo got a little annoyed when he got asked that question. The thing about that is if KB could execute the same plays as TL, precisely in the downfield passing game, why would he be benching KB now? Why wouldn’t the offense run even better with KB being an above average runner? If KB had the ability to keep defenses honest by stretching the field like TL does, this offense would dominate. Sure he can hit a deep ball every now and then, but nowhere close to consistently.

don't get confused on the wording........

Clemson's "OFFENSE" ie playbook will be the same, but what the coaches feel like they can call for Trevor will be different than it was w/ KB.

I think KB handcuffed the offense and the coaches know/knew that therefore they called only the plays in the OFFENSE that he could succeed with. Trevor opens it up, so the coaches may call some plays for Trevor that they called for KB too, while also throwing in the plays (ie more downfield or middle of the field passing game) that KB didn't do quite as well.

changing the offense would mean go to a michigan ground & pound style or something like that. We're still going to be a spread offense, but now have the ability the stretch the field more often and more consistently.
