Watched a lot of ACC football with Mike on the mic over the years. Tough loss.

Dang, didn't know.

I remember tailgating after a game 10 or 15 years ago off Williamson Rd near Perimeter and he came walking by alone wearing a tie and carrying his jacket on the way back to his car in 90+ degree heat. We spoke for a moment before he continued on his way. Was surprised he had to walk like everyone else.

He was the face of acc sports. I looked forward to his onfield and pregame interviews every Saturday. Wow...just wow....

This is shocking news for many who have watched ACC broadcasts through decades of coverage. Just a class act!

Just curious - had he been ill? Nothing online indicated if this was sudden and unexpected.

May he Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Found something online about him having a stroke in July

Sep 5, 2018, 9:43 PM

I don't know if his death was related to that.

For those of you who lived in the Triad area of N.C. , you know what I’m talking about.

Mike was always a cheerful individual and upbeat sports anchor for wfmy 2.

Mike was one of the special guys broadcasting our favorite sport. He will be missed. This was sad news for this old Tiger. Now-a-days it's hard to find an honest, non-biased announcer who captures the special moments so graphically. RIP Mike Hogewood!

Very sad news. What was the cause of death?

Sep 5, 2018, 9:18 PM

I wasn’t aware of him having a prolonged illness or anything.

when you heard their voice, it meant something to you. Mike's voice represented ACC football. I hate hearing this.

He had a place in North Myrtle. I live in Conway and sat beside him on a flight back to MB. Had a great conversation. Just as nice as others are saying. But, man, he could talk a blue streak. Not sure he took many breaths. Very interesting and informative.
