"Lamont Evans, 41, entered the plea in New York federal court to conspiring to commit bribery. He admitted receiving $22,000 to steer the players at the University of South Carolina and Oklahoma State University to certain financial advisers and business managers, attorney Johnny McCray said."

He didn't steer players to USC and OSU, he steered USC and OSU players to "certain financial advisers and business managers".

Here is the full quote from the article:

"He admitted receiving $22,000 to steer the players at the University of South Carolina and Oklahoma State University to certain financial advisers and business managers"

As a coach responsible for the well being of players it is your job to do what is best for them and the team. Receiving money from an outside source that affects that decision is bribery.
